The Leflore Family Reunion began in 1970, organized by Mrs. Zenobia Leflore Kincaid. The very first reunion was held on Christmas Day, a time when family could gather in love and celebration. Over the years, the date shifted from Christmas Day to Easter weekend, making it easier for the family to come together.

From the beginning, the Leflore Family has always been proud and committed. Each generation has carried forward a sense of heritage and unity, with the understanding that our story must be remembered and taught to our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

The roots of this family stretch back to the union of Ella and Wesley (Dan) Leflore, who had four children: John Wesley (Chinnie) Leflore, Sr., Mrs. Zennie Shears, Mrs. Vealie Lee, and Robert (Bob) Leflore. Ella also embraced stepchildren from Wesley’s earlier family: John Morgan, Sr., Mrs. Sallie Standbury, and Lawyer Morgan.

Another strong branch of the family tree grew from Jannie Gray (Mama Jane). She married four times in her lifetime—to Bruce Henry, Vine Leflore, Joe Jones, and Lamar Gray—and outlived all of her husbands. With Bruce Henry, she had two children: Mary Helen Henry and Bulus Henry. Later, with Vine Leflore, she had two more children: Dosia Leflore Tuggle and Wil Al Leflore. Vine also brought three children into their home from his earlier marriage: Mary Leflore Bell, D.V. Leflore, and Tina Leflore.

The heart of our story, however, belongs to John W. Leflore, Sr., born February 4, 1903, and his wife Mary Helen Henry Leflore, born November 8, 1908. They were married on May 21, 1924, and together they built a remarkable family. Over the years, they were blessed with twelve children—eight sons and four daughters.

Their children are: John W. Leflore, Jr. (known as Bye), wife Maurice Lindsey Leflore, Raney Leflore, wife Edweanor Beebe Leflore, Zenobia Leflore Kincaid husband Taylor Kincaid, Ella Mae Leflore, Earnest Leflore Sr., William Leflore Sr. wife Jannie Ruth Griffin Leflore, Bulus Elmo Leflore Sr., (Newt) wife, Emma Lou (Sue) Whitington Leflore, Jannie Mae Leflore, Frank Leflore wife Maggie Johnson, Leon Leflore (Tulie Bug) wife Dorothy Evelyn Amos, Dosia Leflore Stanford and Leonard Kennedy Leflore (LK) wife Linda Diane Hampton Leflore.

Through these children, John and Mary’s family grew into a powerful legacy, filled with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and beyond. John and Mary lived long, full lives, leaving a lasting impact. John Sr. passed away on June 9, 1988, and Mary Helen passed on February 22, 2001. Together, they not only raised a family but also laid the foundation for generations who continue to honor their names.
